Going from ‘You Cannot’ to ‘You Can'
Michelle Obama. Captain Marvel. Beyoncé. While one of these women is a fictional character, they all share something in common. They are women that have excelled in their field, overcoming others' discouragement of their potential. In short, they are not much different than the rest of us. No matter your profession, at some point you’ve had to overcome similar dissuading. It’s important to keep your focus and tune out the nay-sayers, and meeting women in similar circumstances can help encourage and inspire you.
At our WomenWork events, a guest speaker (Woman of Merit) joins us to discuss her particular journey. For 2019, the WomenWork committee has gathered a more diverse range of women to come share their story with us. Don’t miss an event! Save these Tuesday dates on your calendar: April 9th, May 14th, July 16th, August 13th, September 10th, October 8th, and November 12th. You can save your spot at the next event any time by visiting amsoc.com.br/womenwork.
The Woman of Merit speaker for April is Cassia Weibel, Professional Volleyball Athlete. She's played for several important clubs in Brazil, and won the Brazilian championship and vice-Brazilian championship as a member of Rexona club. Through volleyball, she learned English and French, and graduated with a Bachelor's in International Business. With her degree, she took a job as Import Manager for Walmart in Shenzhen, China for 3 years. Nowadays she runs Wibe Comercial Imp. Exp. Ltda. as International Business Specialist, where she provides consulting for entrepreneurs who would like to start their own international activities, either import or export.
At WomenWork, we encourage social responsibility, sharing knowledge & experience for a better future, and the importance of any employment, whether paid or volunteer. Since the launch of our event in May 2018, we have sponsored two girls at the 2018 American Society of São Paulo (AmSoc) Angel Party, and have already raised R$460 towards that same sponsorship goal for 2019. If you’d like to find out more about this charitable event or any of the other charitable organizations that AmSoc supports, visit amsoc.com.br/how-to-help.
Want to make a difference? Share your journey with us. See you at the next WomenWork!
